After the plan for abduction was ruled out as an option the plan was then refocused to the assassination of Lincoln.




During this while of jubilation for the Northern win Booth, George Atzerodt, Lewis Powell, and David Herold realized that their common hatred towards the Lincoln administration would lead the assassination attempts on Abraham Lincoln-president, Andrew Johnson-vice president, and William Seward-secretary of state. In their minds this was the only way to right the wrongs that they felt were brought on by the Lincoln administration. According to how Booth felt about the assassinations it was simple, turn thumbs down our intended targets for the greater good of the nation.
