WW2 Women on the Homefront and on the Battlefield

Although women had been involved in and had served during some other wars and the Revolution, there was re altogethery no precedent for large amount of women on active obligation. It was only in World state of war II that a mass recruitment of women as wellk place. It was estimated that, at the power point of their strength, much than than unitary million women were on active duty at the end of 1943. This number included women in the fortify forces and in the partisans.

Although women eventually learned almost all forces skills, they played significant roles in air defense, signal communications, health check service and the traffic control service. Many women eventually apothegm combat duty because of the increasing shortage of men. Women served in all the services and were present on all moves.

Eventually, a bill of exchange became necessary. In the spring of 1942, Stalin and the Party decided to conscript 100,000 women for service. At first this was non very popular with veteran soldier. Although female doctors and nurses were not in the Red Army, they were down the stairs control of the military. Thus, those in the field hospitals at the front often followed the army. One particularly courageous doctor was Nina Notareva a volunteer in the Red Army who organized one of the first medsanbats, or field hospitals, that followed the army. Decorated for her work under fire, Dr. Notareva was wounded in the course of her duties. Yet she was anxious to choke to the front to help the wounded. This strong sense of duty was prevalent in all aspects of the medical profession.

Female officers of the National Air Defense Forces also played an important and positive role. These officers proven to be good commanders and organizers. Of course at first they were toughened with suspicion by the men under their command. But, as they became more comfortable and more assertive, they began to earn the respect they deserved. Overall, the women who served helped to exert a civilizing influence on their counterparts.

by chance one of the most important functions women performed was in aviation. Women pilots showed heroism not only at the front but also in the rear. Female pilots flew medical supply planes, surgeons to various fronts for emergency operations, and ambulance planes. They flew everywhere difficult terrain, crop-dusted farmland and fought malaria through aero-chemical spraying. Soviet society had coherent encouraged women to fly. They were encouraged to become radio operators, engineers, meteorologists and technicians. Thus, when war stony-broke out, there were already quite a few women pilots unattached for service.
