The Justinian Code

After 395 CE, the Roman Empire had been divided into two empires; The westbound Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. Byzantine Emperor Justinian I felt that Roman law was very unclear and indispensable clarification. Tribonian, a legal minister under the rule of Justinian direct a group of scholars on a 14 month effort to codify the 1600 books of Roman police. The Justinian Code was composed of three main part; Codex Justinianus, the compilation, and the Institutes. The Codex was the first of the move to be completed but was later revised after the abridgmenta had been completed. (Fordham)
