Introduction
An American Crime is a movie that was directed by Tommy OHaver in which a 16 year-old girl was murdered after she had been abused by a divorced mom. Gertrude Branszewsky. together with her septenary children. The girl, Sylvia Likens, and her sister Jennie were left under the care of Gertrude by their gypsy parents for the price of 20 dollars.
Criminology, Theories and Cause-Effect Analysis
One of the theories advanced to explain criminology is the psychological theory which is characterized by social factors, cognition and development, and individual personality. every last(predicate) criminal propensities are tied to the parents business office in rearing their children (Ministry of Justice). An evidence of this theory in An American Crime occurs when the Branszewsky children inflict punishment on Likens as commanded by their mother. The children invite other friends to punish Likens because their mother backed the act. They did not realize they were committing a crime. The poor parenting by Gertrude and compel on the children contributed to this bizarre incident. Moreover, the sociological theory holds that criminal behavior is a societal phenomenon that is motivated by socio-cultural elements.



Emile Durkheims feelings of confusion and lunacy intertwined with the destruction of social bonds. Using the term anomie, he showed that the tie-in to the family due to the breakdown in the institution had resulted to imbalances. Consequently, crime grade soared (Hagan p. 147).
Conclusion
Gertrude had faced this reality since she got divorced with her husband and thus she experient financial problems all the time. Perhaps, such a stressful deportment moved her to behave in such a risky manner. It was a kind of pay back for the alienation and pressure she faced in her life. The lack of love in her archetypical marriage leaded her to losing respect for others.
