Scientific Notation.




A number written in scientific notation has twain parts: a coefficient of magnitude between 1 and 10, followed by a authority of ten.
For large numbers greater than 10, the decimal dapple is moved to the left to give a authoritative power of ten. For small numbers less than 1, the decimal point is moved to the right to give a negative power of ten.

The number 2.5 x 103 means 2.5 is multiplied by 103 (1000)
2.5 x 103 = 2500

The number 8.2 x 10-2 means 8.2 is multiplied by 10-2 (0.01)
8.2 x 10-2 = 0.082
