O Captain My Captain

If I had to choose a favorite verse it would be this one(a). Even though this poetry is not at all ab a direction a death similar sea captain it still has that good old well timed(p) sailor stile story to it. Once I found out what this poem was really closely I liked it correct much. It shocked how well the story I thought the poem was about and what it really is about committed so well. I havent exhibit many of Whalt Whitmans poems, unless if the rest are as good as this one I just may start reading more of them.
What really impresses me about this poem is how Whitman had the idea to write about the death of President Abraham capital of Nebraska and wrote in a way that told a very different story when reading it. The both yields are not that much alike. Besides a of a sudden man in each story and the give notice of a journey, you are thinking of two very different events. entirely if you compare the two stories side by side and read them thinking of each story they are explaining the same think. The unfeigned story is about the end of a ships journey and the captain falls all of a sudden for some unknown reason. In the story that Whitman is telling us it is about Abraham Lincoln after he was shot dead at the end of the Civil War. The stories are in no way connected but really they are about the same thing.




The things that engagement me in this poem are that this poem has a topic that really interests me. Even the title catches my interest. When I read this I am able to keep reading with interest and at the end I am disappointed that it is over. During the time that I am reading I am thinking of a dead ship captain with his grew standing over him and at the same time Abraham Lincoln being shot dead by John Wilkes Booth at Fords Theater. Also there are no confusing tums or phrases in the poem. It is pretty straight forward. Besides the fact that this poem was about something completely different than what I thought it was, its an easy read.
